What I Have Been Focused On: Fast Property 3:0 Development. We’ve been working with coders and developers to get our latest iteration of bespoke property software happening and ready to launch as part of our RRR 4D challenge. I thought I was pretty fast but the proptech world is a whole other level. Keeps me on my toes – empty nester boomer and all – good to stay young mixing it up with the Gen Z’s and Millennials

What I Have Been Reading: Narrative Economics by Robert J Schiller This book looks at economics through a lens of human experience and “stories”. Economists are almost always “Wests”. They study numbers and graphs to make predictions and forecast economic events like stock-market crashes and sudden investing spikes and trends. But bean counters don’t “get” people so they miss the fact that these crazes are often driven by popular narratives. John Maynard Keynes was one of the only economists to look at markets as a function of human emotion or what he called “animal spirits” – fear, hope, ignorance and greed. Keynes predicted that the economic sanctions imposed on Germany after WWI would cause resentment and an uprising.

I have long believed that human narratives and sentiment should be part of our economic analysis along with more traditional economic data, so we can be better prepared for what the future might throw at us.

What I Have Been Watching: “The Man Who Knew Infinity ” on Stan. This biopic starring Dev Patel (the guy from Lion and Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) and Jeremy Irons is based on the true story of a rural clerk from Madras in India who gained a Cambridge Royal Fellowship and made a massive contribution to the world of math and physics in 1918. Definitely worth a watch. They say truth is stranger than fiction – fancy a twenty-something from a backwater colony innately knowing math and physics without any formal education and making fundamental breakthroughs resented by bigoted English scholars? A lost manuscript of Ramanugen’s work was apparently found long after his death in 1920 from tuberculosis and is still being studied today to develop black hole theory!

What I Have Been Doing: Saying goodbye Bittersweet – two of my baby birds left the nest today to go and see the world – I’m almost an empty nester. Pets dying, kids leaving – and soon it will be just Kevin and I rattling around with nothing to talk about
